My progressI finished my novel! I wrote a lot over the past week, and I got it done on Thursday the 10th. It ended up being just under 50,000 words, which was 157 pages. I did the math, and I wrote an average of 854 words per day, which is 100 more than my daily goal! I have definitely come a long way with this project, and I could not be more prouder of the final product. With the final draft done, now I am just looking to the future for all of the possibilities that it may hold. the presentationNow that I have finished my project, all that remains for Genius Hour is to present it. I am not too worried about the presentation, I just have to make sure that I am prepared and I am not overly nervous about it. It helps that I have a lot of friends in that class, because that will make me more comfortable talking in front of them. For my presentation, I decided to make a slideshow with a theme called Library Center. This is what it looks like: I like the style of it, and I think the books fit in well with my project. I have divided my presentation up into 4 parts, which include: Project and Goals, The Story, The Writing Process, and Final Thoughts. I've made an effort to include some images and funny things to lighten the mood, which will make the presentation more interesting. The futureWhenever I finished my novel, I went ahead and made a copy of it to send out to my friends and other people that want to read it. That copy is comments-only, so people can not make any major edits to it. I posted that link on my home page if you want to read it. All of my friends that have read some of it have liked it so far, and I am really glad. I think they are being genuine about it too. I sent out a copy of the final draft to my middle school English teacher, Mrs. Kerr, who I think can give me some valuable feedback. I will obviously have Mr. Barker read it as well, and I think they can give me a lot of general suggestions to make my novel even better. After that, I will try and get some more feedback from various sources (I have not exactly figured out who yet), and then I will potentially explore the idea of publishing it. I do not have the slightest idea about how to do that, so that would definitely be a good learning experience as well. Final thoughtsOverall, I am really glad that I chose to write a novel for my project. The project has let my prove what I can do for myself, and seeing the finished project, I could not be more proud. This project has improved my writing, my work ethic, and it has given me a new appreciation for authors. I have definitely learned a lot about myself and writing, and that is extremely valuable. Thanks for following my journey!

my progressAs we approach the final week of our Genius Hour project, I have really had to start writing a lot more so that I can finish in time. In the past two days alone, I have managed to write over 1,500 words on each day. I am so comfortable writing at this point that I do not even worry about my word count. Now I just write until I get through a specific part in the story, because otherwise I will not get done. As of today, 12/5/20, I have 38,500 words. That is about 118 pages. At the rate that I am going, I will definitely hit 40,000 words, and maybe even 45,000 words. Here's a quote from my novel that I am pretty proud of: "Doubt is the scourge of the one, but trust is the salvation of the many." looking backHaving hit such a late point in the project, I have really taken some time to reflect on how far I have come. As the project has progressed, I have slowly got more and more serious about it and it has become more natural to write. I am now having to think about things that I never would have thought I would need to, like building suspense or having proper flow. It did not occur to me until recently how complex the writing process can be. Sure, you can just put some events on a page and call it a day. To make a writing truly a story, the author has to simultaneously think about how they want the characters react to something, how the reader will react to something, and how that something will drive the story forward. It is a truly fascinating process, and I am happy that I have gotten to experience it. the presentationAs the presentation week looms ahead of me ominously, I really have to start thinking about what points I want to make and what I want to share . I plan to print out my book, and to publish a copy of it to my website so that people can take a look at it and give me feedback. I am also getting a friend of mine to make a cover for the book, which I think will add a great visual element to the presentation. I plan to take some time and read back through my blog posts so that I can get a better idea of how my project has evolved throughout the course of the project, because it definitely has. My main issue now is just figuring out the timing of it all. I am going to be working a lot to finish this novel, so I need to make sure that I have time to create and practice my presentation. With that being said, this next week is going to be the most important of my project, and I really hope it goes well.
